About Oldham-Gryska Agency

Oldham-Gryska Agency is a local agency of National Income Life Insurance Company (NILICO), an insurance company that specializes in providing insurance to members of labor unions, credit unions, and associations.

Oldham-Gryska Agency was founded by its current president Brett Gryska. Brett attended Ithaca College and Alfred State University in New York and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 2005. Soon after, he started working for NILICO where he advanced quickly and was promoted to agency owner by Durhon Oldham in 2016.

The agency is based in Rochester, New York.

Products Sold And Market Focus

NILICO focuses on whole life insurance, term life insurance, and supplemental health insurance, in addition to a no-cost Safe Kit For Children.

When it comes to life insurance, NILICO provides terminal illness riders that the customers can add to their policy at no additional cost.

Accident and supplemental health insurance policies are meant to complement any insurance the customer may already have in place.

Finally, the agency’s accident policy serves to pay cash benefits for accidental injuries. This policy cannot be canceled as long as premiums are paid on time.

The company’s products target both individuals, single parents, and families.

How Leads Work

As a NILICO agency, Oldham-Gryska has in place a number of strategies that agents can use to generate life insurance leads, including referrals from sales presentations, direct mail leads, as well as advertising through no-cost Child Safety Kits.

How Getting Paid Works

At Oldham-Gryska, your earnings will be 100% commission based. Although the agency doesn’t provide any information on how getting paid and commissions work, NILICO claims to offer one of the most lucrative compensation packages in the life insurance market.

NILICO provides a range of benefits for the agents, from organizing annual sales conventions in exotic locations to awards and peer recognition rewards. The company also offers field insurance sales training for new agents as well as online coaching through its Sales Training Academy.

Is It A Scam, MLM, Pyramid Scheme?

Oldham-Gryska Agency is not a scam. It is a legitimate NILICO agency.

NILICO is a reputable insurance company with excellent financial ratings. It has received an A+ rating from BBB as well as an A rating from AM Best.

Oldham-Gryska is not a multi level marketing (MLM) organization or a pyramid scheme. This means that as an agent, you won’t be asked to recruit or pay any membership fees, typical of pyramid organizations. Instead, you will be earning commissions directly from your sales.

My Thoughts

Now that you know a bit more about how selling insurance with Oldham-Gryska Agency works, I would also like to offer my personal experience and knowledge. I have been an insurance agent since 2011 and as an insurance agency owner since 2014.

I hope you will find my opinion on selling insurance useful.

Mastering One Product Strategy

One of the most important things to keep in mind when you are starting your career in the insurance selling business is that you should specialize in one single product rather than learning a little about multiple products.

Here’s why.

Focusing only one product will allow you to quickly become an expert in your niche, whereas if you try to learn about several different products, each with its own underwriting requirements, you risk getting overwhelmed and quitting.

In fact, many six-figure producers in my own insurance agency sell only one type of product.

No matter whether you decide to join Oldham-Gryska or any other insurance agency, you should make sure that the company will allow you to use the strategy of mastering one product.

Ownership of the Book of Business

There is another aspect to consider as a new agent and that is owning your book of business.

What does it mean?

At some point, you may decide to leave your insurance agency to work with another one. Many insurance agencies will keep your book of business, that is the renewal income from the policies you sold. It goes without saying that if you have built up a large clientele base, this can be detrimental to your career.

You want to make sure that if you leave an agency, your clients remain yours so that you can continue to work with them in the future and keep your renewal commissions.

Before joining Oldham-Gryska or another agency, you should always make sure that you’re “fully vested.” This means that you own your book of business completely from day one. If the agency cannot offer you this, keep looking for another one.

Conclusion
