The company was founded in 2005 by Joshua Mellberg, a licensed insurance agent. It is headquartered in Tucson, Arizona, and has over 350 representatives around the country.
In 2020, a majority of interests in J.D. Mellberg was acquired by AmeriLife Group, the national leader in marketing and distributing life, health, and retirement solutions.
J.D. Mellberg serves pre-retirees and retirees across the US.
The agency offers its customers income planning and asset preservation services in order to help them develop and implement retirement income strategies. It focuses on wealth preservation by an annuity in their clients’ retirement preparation.
The company provides clients with a free strategy for building a robust retirement income, consisting of the following steps:
- The discovery process to help customers make more informed decisions
- Preliminary discussion to determine the customer’s goals and wishes
- Review of the customer’s financial resources
- Utilization of available tools and evaluation of relevant products
- Collaboration on the customer’s goals
- Customer’s decisions, and
- Ongoing support to help the customer navigate any changes in their needs.
J.D. Mellberg offers the following products:
- Immediate annuities

J.D. Mellberg’s website doesn’t give details on how agents find prospects, although it does mention that they rely on multi-media lead generation.
Based on our research, JD Melberg provides leads to its contracted agents that may have an interest in the benefits of annuities.
Like most insurance companies, J.D. Mellberg doesn’t publish its commissions for agents on its website. As an independent insurance agent, however, you will most probably be paid a small salary with a commission and a possible bonus.
J.D. Mellberg offers a strong benefits plan and paid training for new agents. In addition, the company organizes regular training events across the country in order to teach financial professionals how to incorporate annuities into their clients’ retirement planning strategies.
Owing to their innovative technology platform and mobile sales technology tools, the agency is able to generate detailed analytics and perfectly match agents and prospects.

J.D. Mellberg is not a multi-level marketing (MLM) business opportunity or pyramid scheme. The company does not have multiple layers of agents, mentors, and trainers and is not suitable for agents who are primarily looking to recruit.
