BackNine Insurance, established by Mark Tattersall in 2003, is a brokerage general agency for life insurance, long term care insurance, disability insurance, and fixed/indexed annuity products.
It has been a part of the CPS Insurance Services affiliated agencies since 2010. The company is headquartered in Westlake Village, California.
BackNine is non-captive and doesn’t sell any fixed products, but operates as a full-service insurance brokerage.
It represents more than 50 carriers including Equitrust, John Hancock, Liberty Life, Mutual of Omaha, and Transamerica.
BackNine Insurance is focused on technology and has developed its own platform for insurance agents named BOSS (Back Office Support System).
This back office support gives agents the possibility to easily get in touch with the team and allows them to chat with their marketing manager and case manager at any time.
It offers how-to videos, quote tools that help sell more insurance online, and quote requests to see what product may be the best fit for the client.

The BOSS contracting feature allows agents to complete the entire contracting process online. It is quick and easy to get appointed with any carrier.
Agents can also track their commissions, manage their cases from start to finish, view case requirements, set and view sales goals, and run quotes. What’s more, agents can easily integrate software to their own website.
The software also serves as an educational resource. It offers educational webinars and provides useful sales ideas and marketing tools.
As for agencies, the BOSS portal offers a global view of all the brokers and their appointments, cases, commissions, and production. It allows them to set up hierarchies and delegate commission schedules.
BackNine has introduced an email capture feature in order to improve lead conversion. Before the customers can see any rates, they will be asked for their email address.
Once they provide the email address, the agent is automatically emailed the new lead’s contact information. The customer’s information will appear on the BOSS account, and the customer will at the same time be able to view the rates.
BackNine doesn’t disclose how its insurance agents generate leads.
However, as an independent insurance agent, you will most probably be paid a small salary with a commission and a possible bonus.

Your first question when you look for an insurance agency to join should be regarding their lead system. How do they teach agents to generate insurance leads?
